Indy Bass Club
2012 FTLOA Charity Tournament
Lake Waveland
April 15th, 2012

The Indy Bass Club held the “For the Love of Andrea” charity fishing tournament at Lake Waveland on Sunday April 15th and despite high winds we were blessed with dry weather after forecast throughout the week called for an 80% chance of thunderstorms. The day started with a pre-tournament

meeting and the auction off of the #1 launch position and the inspirational singing of the National Anthem by Jamie Harper. Rick Ray out bid all participants with a $100 bid for the #1 launch position and benefitted with a 15 second head start when the launch order was called to take off on time at 7:15am.

Photographs were taken of participants as they worked hard fighting the wind while trying to locate and catch their five fish limit hoping to claim their part of the $1750 total purse. Boats began coming in at 3:05pm, ten minutes before the scheduled end of the tournament. Many anglers appeared weary from the constant struggle to maintain their balance as their boats tossed and turned all day.

As the weigh in progressed emcee Jesse Schultz interviewed all the anglers and pressed them for answers to all the hard questions like, “what did you catch fish on, what color bait, how deep, and where?’ As expected about half the anglers told the truth and the other half probably didn’t, all you had to do is decide who was telling the truth! That mystery will never be solved, like chameleons they are constantly changing. After the weigh in everyone was invited to go to the shelter and enjoy some refreshments, check out the silent auction items and await the tournament awards and draw for the hhgregg 50”Class HDTV.

Team Alexander/Perry took 4th place, Team Rounsaville/Williams 3rd place and 1st Big Bass, Team Tim Guard/Russ Zoller held down 2nd place and 1st place and 2nd Big Bass went to Jim Strange/Dick Lange. To wrap things up the silent auction was closed and Jen Hathcoat, close friend of Andrea Vellinga spoke to the crowd thanking everyone for their support and participation in the “For the Love of Andrea” fundraiser tournament. As we prepared to conduct the drawing for the flat screen television we needed a volunteer to actually do the drawing. Vincent the son of Eric Harley and owner of IBC Sponsor Amicus Financial did the honor and drew out Chris Kaiser, President of the Purdue Bass Club as the winner. Chris was immediately called and given the good news, Chris was very excited and thankful to have won. Imagine a 50” class HDTV on campus at Purdue University? Chris is going be the most popular guy on campus!

The final act that will conclude the “For the Love of Andrea” fundraiser is to total all the various donations and present a check. Childhood friend Jen Hathcoat and her husband Paul joined by Andrea’s Uncle Rick were on hand to witness the event. On behalf of the Indy Bass Club Wayne Judd and Bob Speers presented Jen with a check for $5916.

The Indy Bass Club would like to say, “Thank You” to everyone that made this event possible including club sponsors hhgregg, Amicus Financial, Denny’s Marina, Teddy’s Burger Joint, Honey Creek Tackle, Jockamo Pizza, Outdoorsman Sport Shop, Burd. Also special Thanks to Jacob Wheeler, Billy McDonald and Lucas Oil, Terry Anderson and AFS Custom Baits, The UPS Store Noblesville and Lake Waveland Park.
